Save your spot for the Make Art + Make Friends workshop happening on April 4, 2026 at Alex House in Crescent Beach!
Join me, Mariel Nelms, for a relaxed and affordable art workshop rooted in creativity, connection, and care for our environment. Through my work volunteering with the White Rock South Surrey Climate Corps, I’ve become deeply passionate about creating spaces where people can come together, slow down, and engage with sustainability in a hands-on, meaningful way.
In this workshop, we’ll use repurposed and thrifted materials alongside objects we gather from Crescent Beach to transform overlooked items into unique pieces of modern art. I love the idea that something discarded can become something beautiful—and that the process of making it can feel just as meaningful.
You don’t need any prior art experience! Just a willingness to explore, create, and be part of a welcoming, supportive space. For me, this workshop is about more than art. It’s about building community, connecting with our surroundings and neighbours, and giving people a chance to make something with their hands while meeting new friends along the way.
For people 18 years of age + up.
❋ Relax and Create!Step into a relaxed and creative environment where you can slow down and create at your own pace. This workshop is designed to feel easy and welcoming—whether you come solo or with a friend, you’ll be met with warmth, openness, and community magic.
❋ A Multi-purpose Beach WalkAfter preparing our canvases, we’ll head out as a group for a walk along the beach, gathering natural and found materials (aka cool trash!) like beach glass and interesting objects. It’s a chance to spark inspiration, and connect with your surroundings in a simple, meaningful way.
❋ Create Something UniqueBack in the classroom, you’ll use your collected treasures alongside repurposed and thrifted materials to create a modern, one-of-a-kind art piece. I’ll offer guidance and ideas, but the process is yours to explore—playful, intuitive, and entirely your own.
❋ Take Home More than ArtAt the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your finished piece—plus the experience of having created something in community. Whether you’re coming to relax, meet new people, or try something new, this is a space to feel good and make stretch your creative muscles!
