Canadian Editorial Photographer | Work Featured in Canadian Geographic Magazine
My image of Nihal Elwin in Vancouver, B.C. as the home page header for Canadian Geographic in August 2025.
I had the privilege of photographing a story titled “The Canadian Dream” for Canadian Geographic’s July/August 2025 issue, which was beautifully written by Canadian journalist, Kamal Al-Solaylee.
This assignment brought together everything I love about photography: visual storytelling, human connection, and a deep respect for capturing an authentic sense of place. My role was to create engaging environmental portraits of two inspiring women in Vancouver’s lower mainland, Nihal Elwan (owner of Tayybeh restaurant) and Lenya Wilks (director of partnerships and stakeholder engagement at DIVERSEcity). These two women have both navigated the intensive immigration process to Canada themselves, and now assist others to do the same.
Every shoot is a collaboration. For this one, I worked closely with the editorial team at Canadian Geographic to create images that felt authentic and vibrant… something that would draw readers into the story and invite them to care about what’s happening within the paragraphs. From candid portraits to environmental context shots, my goal was to make the imagery feel as real and human as the people behind the story.
Seeing the final story published in Canadian Geographic was incredibly rewarding. It ended up getting a three page spread! Not only did I get to hold the physical magazine in my hands, but I also got to see one of my photos used at the Canadian Geographic homepage upon release of the issue.
It’s an honour to contribute photography that helps tell stories about Canada’s changing political and social environment. Stories that encourage understanding, stewardship, and social action.
If you’re a publication, organization, or brand looking for visual storytelling that connects people to place and purpose, I’d love to collaborate.
